Well now isn’t this fun?

Friday night I was feeling tired, had the sniffles, nothing new for someone who has allergies like I have. Only these got worse. By saturday it had developed into an uncontrollable cough. A cough so bad it triggered an SVT episode necessitating a trip to the ER. And in between all fo the panic (on my part) by being hooked up to about 20 different electrical leads attached all over me to monitor my heart, not jujst one by 2 IVs. amd a blood pressure cuff, they’re telling me I’m just fine and I should just relax and try to get some sleep????

Hate to say this bue they ended up giving me a sedative because I was having such a bad panic attack it was screwing up all of their readings.

Somewhere along in there I was told I had influenza H3N2. Oh goody.

Well they got all that straightened out and then bright and early the next day I had another coughing fit that triggered another SVT episode and back to the ER we go…

They go what, him again? Yes, him again, my wife sighs. Well, chuck him into a wheel chair and bring him along. You know where to take him.

Say, I hear MrsGf saying under her breath. After yesterday maybe you should just sedate him right off the bat?

I was just thinking the same thing. We’ll load him up on benadryl…

Good thing they did. Probably saved me oe hell of a lot of panic and them having to deal with an old, fat man having having the raving staggers.

Anyway it’s about 3 AM Monday morning now. At least that’s what the computer tells me. My own personal time sense is all over the place. Last night around 7 PM I thought it was 7 AM and was wondering why it wasn’t getting any lighter out. I just got done putting down a great pile of pills they’re having me take. I don[t know what most of them are but they seem to be working I’m actually feeling quite a bit better.

I’m on the third dose of Tamiflu and it really seems to be helping.

Feeling very weak, though. Even simple tasks like bending down to pick up a show leaves me out of breath. Takes me a minute or more to recover from going up ro down stairs. Dr. swears it’s one of the effects of the flu. they imaged my lungs and basically they’re the lungs of someone with a bad case of the flu. Haven’t eaten anything in something like two days. No appetite, but this morning I’m starting to feel hungry so that’s a good sign I thinK

    1. Fortunately the snow wasn’t as bad as they had predicted. They were claiming up to 10 inches but it looks like we only got four. I see Mrs.GF already has everything shoveled out. She must have done that when I finally caught a few minutes sleep. Or one of the neighbors helped.

I know I’m not supposed to do this. My doctor would probably have a fit if he found out, but the best thing I tried so far for the symptoms was about a half ounce of single malt scotch…

  2. I am so sorry to hear that you were forced to suffer that horrible attack of the Influenza…hearing you talk about it reminds me “That is why I make sure to get my flu shot every year.” And as to the shortness of breath….I am 87 years old, weigh 220 pounds, and am in the 10th week of recovering from a disease called CDIF…. and I find myself a little short of breath too when I am doing active things like walking, working on my mini stepping exercise device, etc. Like you, my breathlessness episodes are short lived and recovery is fairly quick. My breath problem probably comes from a lower hemoglobin reading during the height of the cdif mess…but I am getting better now. But again, I am so sorry that you had to suffer like this and i am praying that you recover quickly and completely and that you are able to enjoy the prosperous and abundant Life that God desires for you.

    1. Thanks John. It is appreciated. I’m starting to get over it? I think? My fever is down and A bit of food is actually starting to sound pretty good. Still can’t sleep because of the cough but that’s not quite as bad. They put me on Tamiflu as soon as the test results came back. I suspect that’s helping as well.

    1. Yes, I did have the flu shot, as well as RSV, Covid etc. This year’s flu shot was, alas, a poor match for the variety of flu that’s making the rounds. But having the vaccination makes it a lot better if you do catch it. Apparently I’m doing better than most of the victims he’s seen.

  3. Wow.

Sending Good Thoughts for a QUICK and complete recovery.

P.S. I could tell you’re not up to snuff by the mistypes here and there. Definitely not like you.

    1. Thanks, Nan. Yeah, it’s been a rough few days here. Haven’t really slept in two days, nor eaten any solid food. Hacking cough. Between that and all of the meds I’m on it’s hard to think straight. Could be worse, though. Doctor said that if I hadn’t been vaccinated back in October it would probably be even worse. My fever never went over abou 101. He’s seen people come through with temps over 103 and having so much trouble breathing they had to put the on oxygen.
