Today’s Forecast: Smoke!

That’s smoke, not haze or fog. We’ve been under air quality warnings for weeks now, on almost a daily basis, because of the forest fires in Canada. I think this is the worst it’s been, though. As soon as I walk outside I can smell it. They’re warning people with asthma, breathing issues, heart problems, and the elderly to stay indoors and limit physical activity. I was outside for about an hour mowing the lawn and my eyes were watering and I could feel it in the back of my throat. We have all the windows closed, the HEPA filters running on full blast and the HVAC system fans running to pull air through those filters so hopefully that’s keeping it from getting into the house.

  1. Now you know what the folks who live in fire-prone areas go through … sometimes every summer! It is NOT a pleasant experience in any way, shape, or form. Best to stay indoors as much as possible.

  2. Damn, that’s a bit like smoking 3 packs a day!

Back when I had that nasty habit I was a pack and a half a day smoker. Quit cold turkey, never looked back. You can’t not (I know a double negative,) help but smoke that.

    1. Yep, it’s been pretty bad. We’ve had the house closed up tight, the HEPA air filters going full blast and and the fans for the HVAC system running all the time pulling air through high efficiency filters. That helped a lot. It’s finally started to clear up. Tonight for the first time in days I couldn’t smell smoke when I went outside.
